A tiny lesson on WTH is acne

Woman with acne; pimples form due to oil, bacteria, and inflammation, not poor hygiene or diet.

Many misconceptions surround the formation of pimples. People often blaming  things like eating too much pizza or not washing enough.  However, the truth lies in a combination of uncontrollable factors affecting physical health. Pimples develop beneath the skin’s surface for weeks (or often even months) before becoming visible, originating in pores and sebaceous hair follicles.

The process involves sebaceous oil glands producing sebum, which, when combined with unevenly shed dead skin cells, forms a plug that fills pores. Bacteria and oil contribute to swelling, triggering an inflammatory response from the immune system, ultimately resulting in the formation of a pimple.

For those people with acne prone skin, they have a condition called - Retention Hyperkeratosis - which is just a fancy way to say that they do not shed skin cells in the normal way.  Another way to say it is that they do not exfoliate the way a "normal" skin does. so those skin cells pile up and help create the acne cycle. There are other things that contribute to acne, but this is a part of the congestive piece of it.

Part of getting someone clear is to help them with this problem.  You can do that with in-clinic treatments and even more important, proper at home skin care.

However- super important not to just treat this side of the equation.  This is where I see people get into trouble.  You can't only exfoliate away acne.  You cannot dry out a person's skin and leave them with a dehydrated, leathery, uncomfortable skin.  This will not be a long term solution and will lead to other problems and an unhappy skin and person.

We are always looking to bring the skin to its happiest, healthiest state.  This may take some time so patience is needed on everyone's part.
